Early Viking Copper Alloy Ring Pin
Ring pins were a popular form of early medieval dress fastener in Ireland,
and were adopted by the Hberno-Norse in the Viking period. This copper alloy
pin is decorated with hatching engravings. We know from historical records that
in 878AD the Vikings, under their Chieftan Hubba wintered the Viking fleet in
Milford Haven close to Hubberston. Viking finds have been found before in
Pembrokeshire - however they are very rare indeed. So it is most facinating to
think that this artefact could be some remenant from 878AD, possibly lost by a
Viking warrior whilst plundering or trading his way up Milford Haven River.
