Tudor Period Copper Alloy Purse Bar Fragment
(Circa late 15th to early 16th Century)
A Tudor period purse bar fragment with a swivelling (now broken) suspension loop.
The bar has a central sub-spherical boss and one section arm remaining. There was
once two section arms, which were "gripped" at their junction by the spherical boss.
The lower part of the section arm has the remains of a flange to fit and carry the frame.
These flanges would have had small drilled holes for stitching the fabric of the purse.
The purse bar is decorated with incised cross-hatching
